Five State-owned-schools in East Java and one in Yogyakarta are projected to be Center of Education Excellence in their own regions after completing school quality improvement programs held by Sampoerna Foundation United Schools Program (SF USP) since 2006, as mentioned by Eddy Henry, Director of Program and Alumni Affairs Sampoerna Foundation on 19 August 2009. PT HMS Tbk sponsored all of the school programs.

Located on Empire Palace Surabaya, all the six schools including SMAN 13 Surabaya, SMAN 19 Surabaya, SMAN 20 Surabaya, SMAN 1 Pandaan, Pasuruan, SMAN 10 Malang and SMAN 1 Pundong, Bantul celebrated their Graduation Day.
 

The SF USP programs are the major programs to improve the school quality include numerous programs for Senior Management Team, teachers, students, school staff and other school communities as well as school facilities.

To demonstrate the school achievement a student science exhibition was held. This educational exhibition displayed various products such as "Green School" products, extra curricular activities, robotic products, and recycled products such as scallop shells as an alternative for a mixture of concrete

Tens of the best of students and teachers’ creativities were demonstrated. SMAN 13 Surabaya showed many kinds of products applied simple electrical engine starting from merry-go-round to Newton disk. There were also binoculars and simulated volcano. SMAN 1 Pundong showed interesting collections form their library and provided free consultation on female reproduction systems. SMAN 19 Surabaya created many eye-catching and colorful decoration made of scallop shells such small furniture for table, concrete, and bottle ornaments. SMAN 1 Pandaan,  SMAN 10 Malang and SMAN 20 Surabaya, also participated in that science exhibition. SMAN 1 Pandaan showed many pictures and products of their green school activities such as Sirih Merah Tea and liquid fertilizer. SMAN 10 Malang that happens to be the winner of Toyota Eco Youth this year also showed their green school products as they have succeeded in waste management. They also exhibited their mushrooms, taken from their Lumbung Jamur. SMAN 20 Surabaya put their handmade crafts and other scallop shells decorations.

''The training programs and management assistance focused on improving the school quality. And this exhibition allows us to see whether the schools have improved or not,'' explained Eddy.

Meanwhile, Head of East Java Education Officea lso attended the ceremony. He hopes that those selected schools can be model schools triggering the improvement of other surrounding schools in their regions.
