The Principal Mentoring, as always, brings an opportunity for heads of schools and madrasahs to share their views and experience for the school development. For Quarter 1-2009, this quarterly program was hosted by SMAN 5 Bukittinggi on 25 - 26 February 2009 and attended by 21 USP schools principals. Drs. H. Djufri, the major of Bukittinggi, was present to give an opening speech. There were also many valuable and thought-provoking topics presented in this two-day event.

The topics covered a special discussion on Changing Style of Education Leadership presented by Schools Development Program’s education consultant, Daryl Forde, and interesting presentations on School Quality Indicators and Entrepreneurial Schools presented by SF-System Development Officer and Program Officer.

Because this event was for principals, about principals, and from principals, some of the principals gave great contributions. These included presentations on School-based Management (MBS) by Wardoyo, the Principal of SMAN 11 Bandung, Fun Learning School by Dzulzetri, the Resident School Assistant of SMAN 5 Bukittinggi, Implementation of Good Moral Fibers (Akhlaqul Qarimah) by M. Naqib Hasan, the Principal of Madrasah Aliyah 1 Annuqoyah Putri and ISO Certification by Sri Widiati, the Principal of SMAN 20 Surabaya.

From the local government, Yunis Faisal, the Head of Education Office, also explained about the Education Quality Improvement. His sharing made the participants amazed with the vital role and great supports that the local government has been devoting.

At the end of the event, the principals committed to apply all the inspiring and motivating ideas shared in order to improve their school quality.

Food for Thought

There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.
