Monday, 16 February 2009

Conducting an effective training evaluation, effective pre-training analysis, effective training conduction and effective post-training follow-ups, is a must-have skill for our Program Officers in Sampoerna Foundation’s School Development Program to perform well when delivering their performance in the schools. The goal of the workshop is for the Program Officers to be able to work together with the schools selecting the right type of training for the faculty and staff. SF’s Program Officers have since acquired the knowledge to do so, trainings will be planned and conducted effectively and appropriately because training analysis will be done thoroughly, supported by adequate data as justification.

Performing work tasks that have so much to do with passion for higher quality education, makes this workshop an important one for the officers to attend, which was the reason why almost every officer attended the 4 hour-event that was conducted on the 10th and the 11th of February, 2009.

Mr. Eddy Henry, Sampoerna Foundation’s Director of Program initiated the idea, which was then set up and delivered by the School Development Program’s System Development Officer, Andi Prasetyo.

The Event

The workshop went according to plan. Materials that were meant to be delivered were all covered during the course of the workshop. The first day started with an introduction, followed by discussions on training evaluation, examining and understanding assessment documents and finally ended with a simulation. The second day started with some thoughts that were left un-discussed on the first day due to time constraint. The day was then filled with discussions about Kirkpatrick’s 4 Steps of post-training evaluation. The workshop was closed by real case stories told by Program Officers based on their personal account.

Results

Steps that all Program Officers must follow in order to decide for the best trainings appropriate, have been made familiar to them. Program Officers have started implementing analysis of documents prior to training-planning steps. Collection of assessment documents is the tools that are used to determine the best possible training appropriate. Program Officers will also start utilizing post-training evaluations that are compliant with the 4 Steps of Training Evaluation (Kirkpatrick).

School Development is certainly very glad with the fact that now trainings in the schools are done systematically, and USP Program Officers are eager to implement the strategy as soon as possible. It is certainly one of our major hopes in School Development to keep on updating and empowering Program Officers with the latest concept, tools and knowledge in education services.  On top of all, the schools will benefit from it the most, since trainings will be planned more carefully. The trainings that are decided will very much represent specific training needs, making development even easier to reach.

Food for Thought

There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.
