Jakarta, 22 January 2009 – Concerned that Indonesian children have limited access to English reading materials encouraged Indonesian Student Association of Australia or PPIA (Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia Australia) to make a program called “Books for Indonesian Children – Buku Untuk Anak Bangsa (BUAB)” to improve the education quality by distributing English reading materials from Australia to schools and public libraries across Indonesia. Channeled through Sampoerna Foundation’s United Schools Program (SF-USP), Approximately 320 used books were donated to three state senior secondary schools in North Aceh regency: SMAN 1 Syamtalira Aron, SMAN 1 Tanah Luas and SMAN 1 Matangkuli. Around 160 books will, moreover, be distributed to another eligible beneficiary.”We fully realize that there are many Indonesian youngsters have little access to English books. Hence, we would like to contribute though we are far away from Indonesia by donating used books that are still in good conditions. Around 9000 books had been donated across the nation.” said Mika Halpin Hasanah, the Coordinator of BUAB.
Mika also claimed that PPIA had donated books to schools, universities, and public libraries in North Sumatera, South Sulawesi, Kutai, Mataram, Mojokerto, and Papua. “We thank SF for the partnership in distributing the books to needy schools in Aceh”, she added.
Meanwhile, Havie Abdul Gafur, Sampoerna Foundation’s Program Officer in charge of the quality improvement project in the aforementioned schools, expressed his desire to continue working with PPIA. “A collaboration like this should be fostered. It exhibits a great example of different organizations, local and overseas, synergize and work together to help the betterment of Indonesia’s education.”

There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.
