In commemoration of Ramadhan fasting month this year, Students Senate (OSIS) of SMAN 5 Bukittinggi and Forum Studi Islam (FSI), one of the school extra-curricular clubs, organized an Islamic competition event called Syiar Ramadhan IV on September 16, 2008.

The event was not only held to celebrate Ramadhan fasting month but the main purposes were to deepen the students’ faith and morality, to enhance the students’ knowledge about Islam and to test their skills in Arabic language. To encourage the participants, the committees then took the theme “Move to the right way, be faithful, young generation!”

The variety of competitions was divided based on three types of participants which are high school students, junior high students and the high school teachers. Participated by schools within the regencies of Bukittinggi, Agam Timur, Payakumbuh and Padang Panjang, the contests for high school participants consisted of Musabaqah Syarhil Qur’an (MSQ), Calligraphic Computer and Poetry Preach. As for junior high level, the participants were limited within Bukittinggi regency and they were competing in one competition only, Asma’ul Husna chanting. As excited as the students, the high school teachers were challenged to compete in Islamic Singing contest and Tartil Bebas which participated by teachers within Bukittinggi regency.

Although there was no student from SMAN 5 Bukittinggi that succeeded to win any first prize of the contests, the FSI committees were all proud to be the host of the event that had run successfully.
