After a three-year partnership with Sampoerna Foundation United Schools Program, SMAN 2 Balikpapan was acknowledged to have successfully completed the implementation of school quality development program.

A certificate of achievement was given to the principal, Bpk. Totok Ismawanto by Bpk. Eddy Henry, SF Programs and Alumni Affairs Director. The moment took place in the auditorium of SMAN 2 Balikpapan on Friday, 29 August 2008 and witnessed by Vice Mayor of Balikpapan city, Bpk. Rizal Effendi, who was invited to attend the ceremony.

Upon its triumph, SMAN 2 Balikpapan was expected to be the best school model not only in its regency level but up to the provincial level of East Kalimantan as well. The school achievement and development have been very obvious throughout the last three years. Besides the physical school building that had been fully renovated, the students’ academic grades were improved. The school had managed to maintain a sustainable number of one-hundred-percent students passing the UN (National Examination) during the last three years of study (2005/2006 – 2007/2008) and with average scores above 8,5.

“As a principal, I could never work alone. Through the programs such as pedagogy and subject content training for our teachers, and leadership training as well, USP had been the main supporting factor of this school transformation,” admitted Pak Totok, as quoted from Tribun Balikpapan (Saturday, 30 August 2008).
